Prior to 1997, I was a couch potato. I did not play sports in high school or college. Then, a caring colleague saved my life by dragging me to a beginning women’s running group in Montgomery County, MD.
By the time we completed the Beginning Women’s Running Program in 1997, I was hooked. I completed my first Marine Corps Marathon in 1999. Since then, I’ve completed many other races and four other marathons.
I was the head coach of the Montgomery County Beginning Women’s Running Program in 2005. Since then, I’ve served as a head coach and pace leader for the Prince Georges Running Club’s Running Start, 5k and 8k programs.
I have also served as the race director for Great Lengths, Women’s Distance Festival and Men’s Race, and the Weight Watchers Walk-It Challenge. I became a certified running coach in 2008 and have certifications in Aqua Zumba and Aqua Cardio Dance. In 2014 I coached a woman to run the Marine Corps Marathon.
In addition to coaching, I am a Weight Watchers leader and have maintained a 75-lb. weight loss since 2005.
Assuming that one is healthy and free from injury, everyone can learn to run and to move more. I love coaching because I love to help others to experience a sport that I have come to love. And I love helping others learn how to reach their personal goals.
John Bingham (AKA “the Penguin”) says, “The miracle isn’t that I finished; the miracle is that I had the courage to start.” I could not agree more.
